Steve is an outstanding leader, successful plant turnaround architect, and proven driver of continuous improvement. He proactively sees strategic changes and develops realistic plans to counter shifting winds in the market. He also brings an operator mindset to understanding the importance of reliable supply chains with a sense of urgency around meeting an operation’s needs.
I knew Steve through reputation as a tenacious and successful plant manager. His plants consistently earned top awards within the company and received IndustryWeek Magazine’s Best Manufacturing Plants Award in 2006. In more recent years, I had the opportunity to work with Steve when he took over Purchasing. I saw firsthand his tenacity and focus on the objectives. Beneath the surface of his low-key demeanor is a warrior ready to rally the troops and make the impossible happen. He has deep knowledge of gypsum manufacturing processes, supply chains for all required raw materials, and specifically sourcing synthetic gypsum. He has the rare gift of being both a strong leader and an excellent team member.
Steve LePage and I first met during the start-up of the Greenfield Wallboard Project at Newington, NH in 1990. This was the first facility in North America to incorporate self-managed work teams and the hiring selection was very specific in regard to social skillsets, and the ability to solve complex problems in a team environment. Steve excelled at this and was quickly recognized as a very competent member of the Newington organization. His interpersonal skills, combined with the strong desire to learn the gypsum manufacturing process, allowed Steve to be identified as unique and very promotable.
Subsequent to the Newington experience, Steve moved on to the National Gypsum organization where he too excelled as a Plant Manager for many years at different locations within National Gypsum. Nearer to the end of his years with NGC, Steve was promoted into the corporate leadership to secure sources of raw materials.
During this entire time, Steve and I worked together for more than 30 years: Steve managing plants, and myself as a supplier technical representative of raw material paper. I have the greatest respect for Steve as an honorable person and one of the most competent and effective leaders in the gypsum industry.
Subsequent to the Newington experience, Steve moved on to the National Gypsum organization where he too excelled as a Plant Manager for many years at different locations within National Gypsum. Nearer to the end of his years with NGC, Steve was promoted into the corporate leadership to secure sources of raw materials.
